About
In simple terms,
I'm a recording artist and a writer. I enjoy creating something out of nothing,
whatever it is. I've been given gifts enough to be
in the arts, so that's the nature of what I end up
creating. I'm based in Metuchen, New Jersey. I love
New York City (in case you couldn't tell from that
picture up there from atop the Empire State
Building) and I'm regularly on the train or the
Staten Island ferry between the city and home.
I have released
three recordings on which I played most all of the
instruments, if not all. Live, I'll play bass
whenever possible. My sound draws on the
sophisticated rock music of the 70s. As an arranger,
I like to make each part worth listening to on its
own. As a songwriter, I like to communicate a
positive message. I write songs about spirituality,
self-awareness and women. :~)
I don't call
myself a singer/songwriter, since I often believe
that label's connotation is of someone who sings
with a single instrument that he doesn't really play
that well. I'd rather be called a recording artist
or a composer. Multi-instrumentalist, if you must,
but please, not singer/songwriter. I
don't really enjoy performing solo and if I can help it, I'll
never do it again. There's no collective
consciousness and so little energy, and there are too few
musical possibilities. I did a lot of solo gigs
after my second album and though that was my sound
at the time, there isn't enough music in one
instrument and one voice to sustain the style for an
entire career. My vision is as much for music as
songs, and there's a limit to what two hands can do. I'm
always on the lookout for new musicians
to work with.
Two of
my recordings are available at CDBaby as CDs and
full album downloads. Check out the
Music section of
this site for more information and single downloads.
In a time
plagued by the absence of any real aesthetic
criteria for music, the best I can do is strive for
a quality and musical point of view that I
personally can't get anywhere else. I tirelessly
encourage everyone that will listen to buy
independent music, because that's where the real
stuff comes from. That's always been true. Though
I'm not naive enough to believe that music holds the
same value as it used to, I am naive enough to think
that condition can be turned around.
I love being an
independent artist and I'm working hard on a new
album now, enjoying it more than ever. This time
out, I've added many new instruments to my sound and
stepped up the quality of the recordings with a new
studio. I still create my artful arrangements
track-by-track and play those wonderful polychords
like Laura Nyro and Todd Rundgren. The big voice is
still intact. In short, I'm still making listeners'
music.
